The Workshop Camberley Employability Hub

In The Workshop, young people from Surrey get acquainted with entrepreneurship and can start to build their own business or building their skills and confidence.

This is  a hub which was established in June 2021 as a part of the Surrey County Council. The aim of the Hub was to advise and sign post young people aged 18 to 24  living in Surrey Heath area on employability issues. Thanks to long term relationship with the Surrey Borough Council WSX started working with the colleagues at the  Workshop which enabled introduction of the SYU Programme and its delivery.

The Workshop is based in the hears of Camberley, Surrey less than 10 miles from Aldershot which is the main SYU Office. The learners are young people interested in self-employment. They are referred to SYU by The Workshop. SYU training is offered in small groups  and delivered by SYU Coordinator and Trainer Adriana Crear since July 2021.

Coaching session

A promising production company story ...

Three talented  learners who were thinking about setting up a production company were introduced to SYU. The training was delivered in a very compact form: six modules over one busy training day. The modules gave a great knowledge  foundation to  the learners and allowed them to think about practical aspects of their business. The training was followed by coaching sessions which were preparing the learners to the Business Pop Up Event which was organised as a part of an open day in the Workshop. The Pop Up Event enabled the learners to promote their production company called Acobcast and network with the guests invited on the day.  At the end of the Pop Up event the learners were offered a great opportunity to record a podcast with a Mayor of Surrey Heath also present at the pop-up. The SYU build the learners confidence and allowed them to liaise with local community.

"What makes SPEED-You-UP stand out? The Hub allows to explore the idea of self-employment in a practical way. Through the theoretical and practical learning put together it allows the learners to see them as one part and motivates them for action."

The Jobcentre and Surrey Council are two important partners for the local SPEED You UP Hub.

"So far the Speed You Up course has been brilliant! The presentation was informative and educational, we didn’t feel like we we’re being forced to learn anything, we felt as if we were a part of the presentation and our opinions were valued. The pop-up event went very well, we handed out around 100 flyers, got a good response and we got to speak to people of importance. Adriana has been a great mentor and was very good at preparing us for the event."
