KICK OFF PROJECT ENSOR2WORK

High school Ensor Institute Ostend and the Economic House Ostend joined forces on a project called Ensor2Work. This means that students from various study fields work together to start their own business from scratch. The project is part of the European SPEED-You-UP project that is led by the Economic House of Ostend.
Students join forces
Since this school year, several classes from the second and third grades of the Ensor Institute are joining forces. Through the Ensor2Work project, they will strengthen their entrepreneurial skills under the guidance of the project coordinator and subject teachers. Since the beginning of the school year, they have been making every effort to shape their own enterprises. For example, the students of Graphic Design developed a logo for the project, the students of Architectural and Interior Design furnished the premises, the students of Fashion Design and Sales designed a window display, and the students of Business Management used targeted communication and marketing techniques to boost sales.
For this matter, the students work together with local entrepreneurs. They sell the stock or a few articles of Ostend stores through their own company, located in the Jet Center. In this way, the students from the different study directions work together on a concrete project in the framework of their education.
Barbara Himpens, director of the Ensor Institute: "It is an opportunity for young people to gain experience and work together with existing entrepreneurs in Ostend. In this way, we want to enhance their entrepreneurial skills. The pupils work out the entire project from A to Z and have to work cross-class. The fact that this is a real implementation within their field of study ensures that they are well motivated from the start."
What is SPEED-You-UP?
The Ensor2Work project is part of the SPEED-You-UP project of the Ostend Economic House. The overall goal of SPEED-You-UP is to reduce the number of early school leavers and NEETS by improving their motivation and entrepreneurial skills. NEETs are young people who are not in employment or education or training. The project provides young people with a concrete case that they can work on themselves.
Charlotte Verkeyn, Alderman for Entrepreneurship: "The youngsters work together at a location/hub on a business idea. This project is part of the employment projects of Economic House to stimulate the entrepreneurial skills of young people and to prevent them from dropping out of school. The location in the Jet Center - which also houses the Economic House - is the perfect place for the Ensor Institute to start an entrepreneurial project with the students.
The Ensor Institute will provide a coordinator to coach the students. These personnel resources come from the European SPEED-You-UP project." Those who want to follow this' project can keep an eye on the social media channels of the Ensor Institute and the Ostend Economic House.
ENSORINSTITUUT EN ECONOMISCH HUIS OOSTENDE STARTEN PROJECT ENSOR2WORK
Het Ensorinstituut Oostende en het Economisch Huis Oostende werken samen aan een project genaamd Ensor2Work. Dat houdt in dat de leerlingen uit diverse studierichtingen samenwerken en vanaf nul een eigen onderneming starten. Het project kadert in het Europese SPEED-You-UP-project dat getrokken wordt door het Economisch Huis Oostende.
Leerlingen bundelen krachten
Sinds dit schooljaar bundelen verschillende klassen uit de tweede en derde graad van het Ensorinstituut hun krachten. Via het project Ensor2Work zullen ze onder leiding van de projectcoördinator en vakleerkrachten hun ondernemerschapsvaardigheden versterken. Sinds het begin van het schooljaar stellen ze alles in het werk om hun eigen onderneming vorm te geven. Zo ontwikkelden de leerlingen van Graphic Design een logo voor het project, richtten de leerlingen van Architect- en Interieurdesign het pand in, ontwierpen de leerlingen van Moderealisatie en Verkoop een etalage en zetten de leerlingen van Business Management gerichte communicatie- en marketingtechnieken in om verkoop te stimuleren.
De leerlingen werken hiervoor samen met lokale ondernemers. Ze verkopen de stock of enkele artikelen van Oostendse handelszaken door middel van hun eigen onderneming, gelegen in het Jet Center. De leerlingen uit de verschillende richtingen werken op die manier samen aan een concreet project in het kader van hun opleiding.
Barbara Himpens, directeur van het Ensorinstituut: “Het is een opportuniteit voor jongeren om ervaring op te doen en samen te werken met bestaande handelaars uit Oostende. Op die manier willen we hun ondernemerschapsvaardigheden aanscherpen en de leerlingen klasoverschrijdend laten samenwerken. De jongeren werken zelf het volledige project uit van A tot Z. Het feit dat het om een reële toepassing binnen hun studiegebied gaat, zorgt er dan ook voor dat de motivatie bij hen al meteen goed zit.”
Wat is SPEED-You-UP?
Het project Ensor2Work kadert in het SPEED-You-UP-project van het Economisch Huis Oostende. De algemene doelstelling van SPEED-You-UP is om het aantal vroegtijdige schoolverlaters en NEET's te verminderen door hun motivatie en ondernemingsvaardigheden aan te scherpen. NEET’s zijn jongeren die niet aan het werk zijn of geen onderwijs of vorming volgen. Aan de hand van het project krijgen jongeren een concrete case waar ze zelf mee aan de slag kunnen.
Schepen van Ondernemen, Charlotte Verkeyn: “De jongeren werken samen op een locatie/hub aan een ondernemingsidee. Dat kadert binnen de tewerkstellingsprojecten om bij jongeren ondernemersvaardigheden aan te wakkeren en zo ook schooluitval tegen te gaan. De locatie in het Jetcenter – waar ook het Economisch Huis gehuisvest is – is de geknipte locatie voor het Ensorinstituut om samen met de leerlingen een ondernemersproject op te starten. Vanuit het Ensorinstituut zal er een coördinator ingezet worden om de leerlingen te kunnen begeleiden en ondersteunen. Deze personeelsmiddelen komen vanuit het Europese SPEED-You-UP-project.”
