Partner update - Bournemouth University (Feb 2023)

SPEED-You-UP Training Programme

On 22 November 2022 at Bournemouth University, the SYU team delivered a free training programme to practitioners from the welfare, business, and creative sectors, involving three workshops on the following topics: The Value of Entrepreneurship Education for (at-risk) NEET Young people, Developing a Coaching Approach for Young People, and Stakeholder Management & Collaboration.

The training programme was open to experienced and aspiring professionals, and the sessions were designed to be interactive and educational. In attendance were representatives from SWRAC, Young Enterprise, Dorset Growth Hub, West Howe, and Bournemouth University’s Business Engagement and Knowledge Exchange Department. Entrepreneurs from the creative industry were also present.

The team will deliver a second training programme in Weymouth on 20 February 2023 to equip more professionals in Dorset with evidence-based knowledge and skills to work with (at-risk) NEET Young people. We aim to promote the value of SPEED-You-UP’s model of entrepreneurship education for vulnerable young people and narrow the regional adult skills gap by providing CPD training that is accessible, high-quality, and relevant to the work of schools and youth sector professionals.

What next for BU & SPEED-You-UP?

To ensure the project's sustainability in coastal communities in the UK, the BU team submitted a UKRI funding proposal in January 2023 to develop a Local Policy Innovation Partnership in Dorset, with the BCP council as co-director. If successful, this partnership will promote the outcomes of SYU, consolidate and grow a stakeholder network to address socio-economic deprivation and inequalities in Dorset and co-create place-based interventions through dialogue and insights from research, local experience, and perspectives.
