Goals and outcomes

What is the goal of this module?

The purpose of this module is to let the young people continue to work on their entrepreneurial idea and then put it into practice. This module should support young people, based on theory, methodologies and tools, to shape their skills related to marketing, communication, sales, etc. This knowledge can be applied in their pop-up. This module contains a step-by-step plan that the young people (and their teacher) can follow.

This module builds strongly on the previous module (DESIGN phase). In the design phase module, young people discover the BMC in a playful way and already give the first impetus to a business model. In this module, young people will further elaborate parts of the BMC in order to come up with a clear marketing, communication and financial plan.

What are the learning outcomes?

At the end of the DO module

  • The learner has the tools to develop a business model into an actual business
  • The learner has basic knowledge of marketing, communication, financial plan and sales
  • The learner is able to use this knowledge for their pop-up
  • The learner is able to decide whether or not they want to continu with their pop-up

Some steps will be reserved only for the excel option. Furthermore, for some steps additional (optional) tools will be listed. Schools/teachers can choose which additional tool(s) they want to use. Using these tools will allow the youngers to have a more in-depth knowledge. At the moment, there are no additional tools or session plans available.

Additionally: ‘prototyping and market research’ and ‘start the pop-up’ can be done quite rudimentary but also very extensive. For example: schools can facilitate exchange between HUBs, organize workshops from entrepreneurs in the HUBs etc. Or the pop-up can be for just one day or for a longer period of time. It’s up to the schools to decide how thoroughly they want this part to be.

This first part of this module can easily be done online. Furthermore, there are some minor modifications:

Tools such as mini-brainstorms, role plays and mood boards will need to be done online using Miro, Zoom and/or Skype.Market research will have to be limited to gathering feedback in an online manner.

Tips and tricks

Important! There are legal and administrative requirements to be aware of before, during and after the pop-up. There is a flowchart teachers, coaches and young people can use as a guideline for this.

Important! In this module, some theory is unavoidable. We want to get the young people started with the theory as quickly as possible and we want the young people to apply the theory to their concrete project. Use inspiring stories/testimonials and guest lectures (such as a graphic designer, an entrepreneur or someone who has already participated to SYU) to make the theory as tangible as possible.

Important!  This module requires some economic knowledge of the teacher or coach. If that could be a problem, external support should be considered (buddy system teacher - coach within SYU, entrepreneurs from the neighborhood - co-teaching with a colleague).
